On March 5, 2026, the Interuniversity Olympiad for English-speaking students titled “Advanced Surgical Skills and Clinical Decision-Making” was held at the Kazakhstan-Russian Medical University. The event aimed to enhance practical surgical skills and clinical decision-making abilities among future physicians.

According to the results of the competition, the team of the 5th-year International Faculty of Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University won first place and received the main prize and the championship cup.

The team members were:

  • Kaliya Dzhuvanysheva — Team Captain

The Olympiad consisted of two main stages. During the theoretical stage, participants answered blitz questions, solved clinical case scenarios, and identified surgical instruments and suture materials.

The practical stage was conducted in the OSCE format, where students demonstrated their surgical skills. Participants performed tasks in desmurgy (bandaging techniques), applied a two-layer intestinal suture with an end-to-end anastomosis, and performed tendon repair suturing.

The evaluation criteria included accuracy of technique, adherence to aseptic principles, correct instrument selection, teamwork, and time management.

The KazNMU team demonstrated a high level of preparation, successfully completed all stages of the competition, and showed excellent practical skills and strong teamwork.

We congratulate our students on their well-deserved victory and wish them further success in their professional development
