From December 10 to December 12, 2025, the VIII International Surgery Olympiad was held at the premises of Novosibirsk State Medical University.
The event was attended by teams from leading medical higher education institutions of the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Russian Federation, including Vitebsk State Medical University, Karaganda Medical University, Saint Luka Lugansk State Medical University, I. P. Pavlov First Saint Petersburg State Medical University, Tyumen State Medical University, Khanty-Mansiysk State Medical Academy, as well as five teams from Novosibirsk State Medical University. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University was represented by the CAOS team.
The Olympiad program included 25 competitive tasks aimed at assessing the level of theoretical knowledge, practical surgical skills, and professional competencies of students in the field of surgery. The competition covered major areas of clinical surgery, including abdominal, thoracic, vascular, and plastic surgery, microsurgery, emergency medical care, as well as theoretical and creative contests.
The CAOS team was supervised by
Kulmira Belguzhaevna Abdykerimova, Associate Professor of the Department of General Surgery and Topographic Anatomy at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University. The team consisted of students of the International Faculty:
- Turzhan Kumisai, 6th-year student;
- Kaliya Dzhuvanysheva, 5th-year student.
The international status of the event facilitated professional experience exchange, development of inter-university cooperation, and establishment of academic and professional ties among future medical professionals.
According to the results of the VIII International Surgery Olympiad, the CAOS team of Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University was awarded Second Place in the Overall Ranking, demonstrating a high level of student preparedness and effective organization of educational and practical activities.
