The founder and first head of the nephrology module from 2010 to 2018 was and still is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Honorary Professor of KazNMU Asiya Bakishevna Kanatbaeva.
09/23/2010 – a nephrology course was organized as part of the “Department of Pediatric Diseases of the Faculty of Medicine”, then on the basis of the Department of Urology, decision of the Academic Council of the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, protocol No. 1 dated 09/23/2010, with a change in the name of the department from “Department of Urology and Operative Nephrology” to “Department of Urology with a Nephrology Course”.
September 1, 2012 – the nephrology module was transformed into an independent module by order No. 6452K. The module was headed by K.A. Kabulbaev, G.N. Chingaeva, and A.M. Shepetov. At that time, the module staff consisted of three professors, five associate professors, and eight assistants.
Since September 1, 2017, the module’s faculty members have been working as part of major clinical departments (ID No. 1, No. 2, and No. 3).
August 14, 2018 – the independent Department of Nephrology was established.
Currently, the department’s staffing level is (10.5 positions): 3.5 professors; 2 associate professors; 5 assistants; 2 part-time workers; and 1 laboratory assistant. The department trains first- and second-year nephrology residents.
The department’s staff performs a significant clinical workload, providing consultative and therapeutic care at clinical sites and conducting research. They publish research articles jointly with physicians at clinical sites. Journal Clubs with residents are held weekly, where articles are reviewed, and Nephrology School is held every second Thursday of the month. Currently, the department’s staff is located at seven clinical sites, including the main clinical site of Clinical Hospital No. 1.
