Education: After completing eight years of school in 1980, he entered the Shymkent Medical School (sanitary and paramedic faculty) and graduated in 1984.
From 1984 to 1986, he served in the Soviet Army and in a limited contingent of Soviet troops in Afghanistan.
Abay Musayevich Shepetov graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine at the Almaty State Medical Institute in 1992.
Work and research experience: He began his career as a medical intern in the Department of Surgical Diseases at the A.N. Syzganov Scientific Center of Surgery.
After completing his internship, from 1993 to 1999, he worked as a research fellow in the Department of Transplantology and Artificial Organs at the A.N. Syzganov Scientific Center of Surgery.
In 1998, he defended his PhD thesis on the topic: “Prevention and treatment of vascular complications before and after kidney transplantation”, specializing in 14.00.27 – surgery.
From 1999 to 2007, he headed the pediatric hemodialysis department at the Aksai Republican Children’s Clinical Hospital.
From 2007 to 2010, he was a doctoral student in the Department of Pediatric Diseases, Faculty of Medicine, S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University.
In 2010, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Pathogenetic rationale for the treatment of mineral and bone disorders in children with end-stage renal failure,” specializing in pediatrics (14.00.09).
From 2010 to 2011, he headed the hemodialysis department at Sunkar Medical Company.
2012–2013: Director of the State Public Utility “Zarya Vostoka Center for Primary Health Care” at the Almaty Healthcare Institution.
Since 2013, he has been an assistant professor, in 2014, an associate professor of the nephrology module, in 2016, he has been the head of the nephrology module, and since 2018, he has been the head of the nephrology department at the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University.
He is actively involved in the study of the diagnosis and treatment of acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. He has over 100 scientific publications in scientific journals in Kazakhstan and abroad. He has co-authored two monographs, one textbook, and five methodological recommendations. He holds nine invention certificates.
